i have touchy lungs due to being born a premie and allergies and i have a tendency for colds to turn into bronchitis and chest infestions etc. and i find that treatment with inhaled and oral steroids and other anti-inflamitory medication to work better than a course of antibiotics. you've been sick for a long time now... it stands to reason that there might be inflammation issues, rather than infection issues. this medication is common to asthmatics but not limited to. i find going on advair or symbacort for a time helps (both are inhaled steroids) and i have even been given a five day course of oral prednisone. if you go to an emergency room coughing like crazy, they should give you treatments of this medication via an oxygen mask. sometimes that is enough to get your lungs to open up. not saying you don't have illness and infection, but there could be lasting inflammation that needs to be treated. this is just my best guess based on what happens to me. hope you find something that works soon!!
i'm gonna suggest it at least. back when i smoked i got bronchitis and pneumonia every winter and they usually gave me an inhaler. prednisone makes me face swell up hilariously (they gave it to me for RA) but anything to put a freaking end to this.
yeah, i mean it sounds like the infections have left you with lasting damage that needs to be fixed. the inhaled steroids don't have the side effects prednisone does. something like advair, usually works for me. it is kind of super expensive - and that is even the canadian price. but it really does work. good luck.
