today my district manager was in my store for about an hour. part of this time was spent in a closed door meeting with the store manager. then the pharmacy crew all went off to the district manager about our piece of shit assistant manager. he told them he's "begun taking steps to rectify the situation."
after he leaves, the store manager pulls me aside saying that the district manager is taking us out to lunch for a meeting in a week or so. i asked if i was in trouble and he laughed at me, said no. keep in mind the store manager has been fighting tooth and nail to get me quite a sizable raise for the past few months.
now fuck me if i'm wrong, but these actions have lead me to believe that i might be in the arena of a promotion. the rumor has been floating around for about 4 months now that i was being considered to replace the assistant manager, but i always just took it as wishful thinking on the part of the people the assistant manager makes miserable on a daily basis. anyone i've told this to thinks that it is indeed the purpose of our private meeting to offer me this position.
it would mean i would no longer be union, but i would have three times as much vacation time. i would also have corporate health benefits that i've been told are much better than the benefits i currently have. on top of this, a 401k (for whatever that's worth right now, lol), discounts on home and auto insurance and a $20-$25,000 a year pay increase.
i'm not sure what to think or not think. i'm trying not to get my hopes up, but i could REALLY use that raise. the job duties are exactly what i'm doing now, minus the piddly shift supervisor shit. i currently do the assistant manager's job as well as my own, and it would be nice to just be responsible for my own job. apparently the head tech in the pharmacy told the district manager the exact same thing, that i do the jobs of three people while the assistant manager fucks off as much as possible, as do some of the other supervisors.
so i guess we'll see?
