ooookay. more in depth. the MRI report is as follows:

"there is approximately 4 mm size protrusion of the c5-c6 disc on the left compressing, displacing and deforming the adjacent spinal cord and severely stenosing the adjacent lateral recess and neural foramen. it is possible that a portion of this disc material may have seperated to form a free fragment from the remaining disc."

the surgeon walked into the room and was like "do you want to see your MRI? it's really significant and i want you to see for yourself" he proceeded to show me exactly what i knew was already there but i sat and listened as he talked about what everything was. he kept using the word "significant" which is never a good thing in regards to injuries (unless we're talking about healing). he told me that he hasn't seen many cervical spine injuries that were as "significant" as mine, which is always good to hear from a doctor who performs hundreds of surgeries per year .

he asked about my left arm and how i use it. i told him i've had to start coming up with different ways to do things from typing to getting dressed to bathing, and he said that it didn't surprise him. he said that he feels i need surgery ASAP (just like my docs said he'd say) but he's going to be out of town for two weeks starting the 24th. i could either go tomorrow (hell no) or the 11th.

so the 11th it is.

i'm getting another fusion. apparently they go in through the front of your neck (which will be a BITCHEN scar! i plan on telling people i was in a vicious knife fight with 50's greasers), dig out the bad disc, put in a bone graft, screw in a plate and then call it a day. he said i should be able to go home the next day, which is fine by me, i HATE st. thomas hospital.

past that i'll have to wear a cervical collar for a month, then i should be relatively close to normal. i'm just looking forward to not being in pain and not having to take pain killers. i hate them so much.

so that's my day in a nutshell.

good luck, I'll be thinking about you when it happens. I understand not going tomorrow (today). My surgeon had offered the same thing to me, and I was like o.O?! His favorite word for my disc was "impressive".
