so joey can't be awake.

ever.

he will sleep through an alarm for hours, might get up and hit snooze once in a while, but he'll go right back to sleep. hours of this. every day.

he nods off like a heroin addict. when driving, when talking to me, when watching TV, playing with his son. i'll ask him repeatedly to sit up so he stops falling asleep, he'll just lay right back down and nod off. i'll yell at him to wake up, he'll sit up, as soon as my back is turned he's slumped over asleep. niklas weekends have become me and nik weekends because he sleeps through them and i have to watch him/feed him/change him because he simply WILL NOT stay awake. i can ream him for a good 20 minutes about being awake to spend time with his son, hang out with me, DRIVE - he'll fall right back asleep, sometimes before i'm done.

it's fucking infuriating.

he gets a solid 7-8 hours on the weekdays, much more on the weekends (except nik weekends). i don't understand. i go on 2-4 hours a night all week, 6-7 if i'm lucking on work weekends, 3-4 on nik weekends, yet i remain awake.

my question is - is this something we should be worried about? it doesn't seem like healthy behavior to me. usually no matter how tired someone is if they NEED to be awake (like when driving) they can be. i'm worried he's going to get into an accident, or fall asleep on his machine at work (he's done this several times and sustained some pretty nasty injuries as a result) or worse.

i don't think he does this because he just doesn't *feel* like staying awake, at least i hope not cuz then i'll be furious that he nods off and lets me care for his son because he doesn't *feel* like it.

any suggestions?

He needs to see a doctor, stat. I'm thinking either sleep apnea or narcolepsy.

I agree here too.

Just to get all the options checked out and get him taken care of.

Yeah, if he ever stops breathing and gasps when he's asleep, it sounds like some delicious sleep apnea.

sleep apnea is where he stops breathing while asleep; and needs to be awoken, or he'll jump start himself awake. I doub't it's this. As for narcolepsy, this is a tough diagnosis, as he'd fall asleep doing various things, not just 'at rest'. Its possible it could be this. I'd also venture a guess that work and stress are taking a toll. But yea; a doc would be a good idea
