so browsing through classes for spring semester, i stumbled upon a "special topics" course that seemed like it would be perfect for me. see, special topics courses are courses taught randomly that are usually really interesting, but only offered when the professor has the time to teach, and only offered to upperclassmen. for instance, in summer i took "drugs and behavior" which examined the psychophysiology and psychopharmacology of various neuroleptic and other psych drugs. this semester i'm taking forensic psychology.
now, there's one offered for spring called "theories of emotion." since my area of expertise is emotional disturbances and abnormal pathology this was right up my alley. until i saw who was teaching it.
the semester before my fusion surgery i took abnormal psych, you know, my area of interest. because of all the issues i was having (heavy narcotic meds, illness from these meds, reduced immune system leading me to get sick often) i missed class fairly often, but ALWAYS made up my work, and when i was there i ALWAYS participated. well this just chapped the professor's ass, especially since i continued to do well. he made it clear without actually saying as much that he did not believe my illnesses. he took this out on my grades. no matter how well i did, he docked me and entire letter grade in both the class and the writing intensive portion because of attendance. for writing intensive, he went through and marked off a point for each time i used an apostrophe, even if it wasn't in a contraction (in tech writing you're not supposed to use contractions AT ALL). this dude seriously went through my 24 page paper on "ethical issues in treatment methods of schizophrenia: classic and alternative" and found EVERY APOSTROPHE, circled it in red and put a "-1" next to it. for real. this included the bibliography - you know, titles that i didn't even write. i still managed to walk away with a B in the class and a FUCKING C+ in the writing intensive.
guess who's teaching this special topics class.
sucks, i was so excited too. oh well. i'm sure i can find a class *not* taught by a pompous retard.
