so today at work i was ringing on register while the cashier was doing something. this sweet little old lady comes up to me and starts talkign about this "people" magazine she just has to have, and begins to count out change for it because she's so "broke." we're talking about the weather and whatnot, she's being a nice little old lady... then the dark ages reared its ugly head.

she points out that people magazine has the mccain family on the front and states to my triumphantly "THAT'S who i'm voting for, not some liberal porch monkey!"

she could have opened her mouth and birthed another head and i would not have been as shocked as i was at that statement. i mean, do people REALLY still think like that?! really??!?!

unfortunately yes. the older generations still see stigma in african americans. Its not all encompassing, but there will always be ignorant fucks.

it just makes no sense to me. i think martin luther king was right on that whole judging people by the content of their character other than the different color people thing. i gotta admit tho, i'd prolly double take at a green dude, can't say i'd judge on that tho.

i've just never understood racism, and it infuriates me to no end that it perpetuates, even now. we say we've come so far as a people when we've really barely moved at all.

oh yeah, I hear that stuff a lot out this way.
It's very disappointing. :(

i know i'd rather vote for the old white guy and remain poor than vote for someone i actually agree with (not saying i'm an obama supporter, but still)

i just don't understand how people can continue to believe like that when it's been made very clear that the color of your skin speaks nothing of your character. i guess its because i come from immigrants that it doesn't sit well with me.

Oh yes. My mother told me just a few weeks ago that she was not voting for a "half-breed."
