so i took the cats to the vet cuz they all needed a checkup.

well guess what?

nadjia, the newbie who lost an eye prior to being adopted by us, has a few different respiratory infections and some kind of sinus yuckness going on. she's currently on antibiotics and has an ointment for her good eye. she's not too hip to having her good eye get all blurred up by the ointment, but i'd rather her heal and be happy after this is over - so i'll put up with the deep claw marks and hissing, lol.

orion... his rampant peeing had a deeper seed, just like yappa. i cried with the memories of it. remembered scruffing her when she peed on the carpet, then i found out she was sick. i've only scruffed him a few times. any time i scruff one of them i want to cry instantly. anyways, his bladder is inflamed. no masses, thank the fuck god, but he's been in pain this whole time and i missed it. almost a month the poor guy has been doing the pee party, and i missed it. they gave him an antibiotic and a pain killer. he's really funny on the pain killer, he just sort of watches the world in amazement. i hope he gets better too.

miette. this is the one that hurt the worst. on the minor side, she's been nervously scratching at her ears. they gave us some ointment to help her heal so she won't scratch the scabs off and seems to be doing fine. what's not fine is her tumors. when i got her spayed, we went to a vet out here who takes the friends of animals certificates. they shaved her belly and did the surgery AROUND the tumors, never bothered to take any samples or anything while they were in there. said i'd have to make a separate appointment if i wanted to know what was wrong and that they couldn't combine surgeries for billing purposes, they'd have to do a separate one. seriously dude, wtf?

so the vet tells me that one is squishy, but the other is hard and pea-shaped. she wants to go in and remove them both since mammary tumors have an 80% chance of being malignant. the fact that she's had them so long is good though, because if they were malignant they'd have had more adverse effects by now. she still wants to take them out in case they choose to go bad.

so there's $300 i didn't have to drop on vet bills. another month of not paying medical bills i guess. well mine at least.

miette's surgery is going to cost between $150 - $300 dollars, perhaps more. i blew through my savings when my sick pay got cut in half and joey wasn't working. he just started a new job tuesday, but he's got so much to catch up on there's no way he can help. i've maxed out my financial aid from the university, and my credit cards may not be able to cover it. oddly enough, the same day i found all this out, i got two credit card offers in the mail, one from one of my current credit card companies for a second card due to my "excellent payment history", and the other from my union. i can't help but think this is gonna be my only choice to help her, because i can't bear to stand by silently and watch another cat slowly die because i'm so poor. i cannot do it. i WILL NOT do it.

and to think, it was just a routine checkup.
