Kinda like a funky English jam/relish, most notably Eastern Indian cuisine. Fruits, vegetables, spices, etc. Used mainly as a dip or marinade. (good way to spice or sweeten up plain noodles) I've had some homemade stuff (a Hindu cilantro/jalapeno chutney) that blows away any Mexican salsa. :D
